Book 'em

Class: Interaction Design Fundamentals

Assignment: In response to the NYC BigApps challenge, we were asked to research the changing role of ubiquitous computing in urban environments and design a mobile application using at least one source of data from the Data Mine.

Solution: Book 'em is an application for the Apple iPhone that pulls together locations and hours for all library branches. It integrates data from NYC's three library systems, the New York Public Library, the Queens Library and the Brooklyn Public Library. Book 'em uses GPS to locate the patron and show them, via Google Maps, nearby libraries. It connects to Hop Stop to allow the patron to find transit directions to the library from their current or another location. The app was featured on Good magazine's website.
